Q: so for the science fair i am doing a project on different types of fishing line, fishing line knots, durability to poundage etc. what would be a good way to test this? oh, if you can find any web sights or just have random knowledge on fishing line feel
A: any brand would work. use 20lb test
After buying fishing line, does it stay curled after you remove it off the spool thing?
Is it easy to straighten it?
How can it be done?
Yesterday, I posted a question about my tangled line mess with my spinning fishing reel. Most people said it was the bad line that was already on the reel when I first bought it, and that I should buy new line. Well today I bought Zebco Monofilament 10 lb. test line. I have never put new line on a spool before and have been looking up on the web how to do it. Yesterday people said to have the line come off the spool and onto my reel with the label facing up. The thing is my spinning reel rotates in a counter-clockwise direction, and the zebco fishing line comes off that in clockwise direction. So should I put the label face down so that the reel and spool are synced together in a counter-clockwise direction? Any other important information that I should know when putting new line on my reel, please please share.
Yes, you want the line coming off of the spool in the same direction as the reel turns. This will help greatly when it comes to line twist.
You need to also be sure that your reel is capable of holding 10 pound line. Some reels are small and made for 4-6 for example. They simply won’t handle heavier lines very well. If it’s at least a mid sized reel, 10 pound should be fine.
The only other thing that I can think of is to be sure you keep some tension on the line while reeling it in. If you don’t apply some pressure, you will run into problems again.
I’m not trying to “dis” your line, but I wasn’t aware of Zebco making line. If it was cheap, you may run into problems again. Cheap line is usually stiff and pretty low quality stuff, which makes it hard to use and may not be very reliable. Hopefully this isn’t the case, just thought I’d throw it out there. If you do happen to run into problems, you may want to check into the better known lines like Trilene, Stren, or Suffix.
As the previous contributor said, you do need to put some tension of the line as you spool up. You can do this if the reel is on your rod and you hold the line in the palm of your right hand, which should be anchored to the rod while you wind the line onto the reel. One tip for ensuring that you don’t impart twist to the line as you unwind it from the spool you bought it on and onto your reel is to put it in a bucket of water. It will naturally orientate itself correctly as you take line off it.

How do you thread a fishing line through the pole? I have a Shakespeare xtreme that will haul in up to 20 lbs. I plan on going to fish for Salmon (in Alaksa). Also, are there any tricks on how to attach the lure? Any knotting techniques? Can you recommend
