How big of a problem are holes/bumps in the road for sport bikes?
[2009-09-20 14:20:31]

Q: I am looking at a newer model ninja250r at the moment, and it seems like a sport bike wouldnt be able to deal very well with bumps, potholes and various other imperfections in the road. This will be my first motorcycle.

A: Anything you can't go around, just slow down for.
Make sure you're not braking when you hit them and you should be fine.
You have much less control when you're braking, if in doubt, slow down before and either idle or accelerate through

Slime smart Bicycle tube
The slime smart tubes work perfectly. Just be sure you check the size of your bicycle's inner tube before ordering.
tubes
blew out both tubes on filling them up with a low pressure compressor. they blew out at less than 120 lbs which was the pressure on my ultra gator skins. If you do stand behind your product i would appreciate either a full refund on these tubes or another set that won't blow out!
Avoid this product!!!
I ordered four of these tubes to try out. Two of them were defective -- the valves stuck. One of them spewed green slime all over the place. I'll never buy another one again.
slime road bike tubes
These tubes seem to help with small leaks and since they can't be found anywhere at this price I would recommend Amazon.
amazing
got a flat last week on the road. decided to pump up the flat 'slime tube' before changing tubes. AMAZING. the slime tube held the rest of the ride and continues to keep pressure up this week. great

avenir tubes blow...don't buy them
I purchase three Avenir tubes some time ago and I have concluded that they suck!. I used the first two a few months ago and they both blew on the same day. Yesterday I used the last one to repair a flat and it blew within one day. They all had some kind of stem problem. If you want to waste your money buy these...if not consider something else.
Mediocre
I've been using this brand/style of tube on my road bike for the past 18 months (mostly because it's the only tube readily available at Dick's). I've noticed that some (~20%) of the tubes have 'soft' spots that show up as dips when the tube is even just partially inflated. These tubes tend to last me about a week (~30 miles) before they flat. However, if the tube doesn't have any soft spots I'm able to use them until I hit something that my tires just can't protect any tube against.
Avenir Tubes have not served me well
I've gone through 3 tubes in less than a month. The problem I have is when I pull the pump head off the Presta valve. The valve stem separates from the tube leaving a large hole in it. I think the problem is the tubes. Will not buy again... No Way!

I plan to purchase either Quality or Michelin tubes this time. I'm hoping they are better built.

Teflon coated inner wire for road brakes

Customer Reviews

Worked for me
Simple brake cable but nicely coated with black teflon. Easy to install. I've only had it installed about a month but see no problems. Also bought the gear cables and they work fine too.
absolutely unbelievable service -- blame the customer
Bought their "road brake cable set" (housing + 2 cables) for a 56cm
bike.

On trying to install, discovered that they'd given way too little housing.
My bike has an internal cable routing through the top tube, not the
split ends. The amount of housing was enough to do the rear brake
and about 4" left over. basically over 1' short.

Sent an email first. No answer after a week.

Called their 800 and talked with the office manager.
Explained the situation, and was told
1) I should buy another cable set because I have an old bike and "you
should have known that you'd need more"
2) asked for a piece of housing to do the front brake, and she replied
that "I can't just GIVE you that. that would cost me money and wouldn't
do me any good. your local bike shop can probably just give you
some cable housing" (hmm, why would I have just bought some teflon
cables?) "we distribute someone's brake cables from some factory in taiwan
and can't really ship you one" (despite the fact that you can order from
their webpage)
3) oh, and in response me stating that I would post a bad review --
"well, I've got your CallerID and we'll get you for slander"

Hard to believe companies and service departments like this exist anymore.
I've got 11 bikes. They got me on one set of cables, but not another.
So go to Amazon, ebay, or elsewhere and look up "teflon cables" or
"teflon brake*" and you'll get lots of other options, some of which will
be identical to these and from companies that understand customer
service. I tried one of these, and the construction was identical
and they were cheaper.

I'll say thanks also to Amazon for having the guts not to squelch bad
reviews, even though I'm sure it hurts their bottom line. It sure makes
me choose to buy from them rather than the alternatives.
Ride These Roads With Your Eyes - Sportbikes.net

I'm in the home stretch of delivering a book on motorcycling Colorado. Due date to the publisher is 3/1. Will be at Amazon, dealers, etc. in the autumn. An expansive and comprehensive thing... 170+ chapters, 250 roads/rides, 1,000 images, 100 historical images, 200+ vids, etc.... written with the p-o-v the road and ride is the destination. Companion web site will turned on later this year. Anyway, snagged ten of the book's pics. Good riding everyone, in 2010! One of many historical comparisons where I find the location of an old photo and capture an image near where the photographer stood. Many Colorado roads are built on old train beds. This is Marshall Pass discovered by Army Lieutenant William Marshall who was rushing to get back to Denver after mapping the San Juan Range for the Wheeler Survey in 1873. He had a raging toothache and declined offers from the camp blacksmith to take care of it with his tongs. Instead of following the month long SW Colorado - Denver path over Cochetopa Pass (Another chapter in the book), he left to find a short cut, bringing his packer and leaving the others on the traditional route. Spotting a low rise the two hacked for three days through timber, fallen trees, and rocks to make it to the pass summit. Despite the agony of clenched jaws and only able to sip broth for food, Lt. Marshall and the packer stayed to map and survey the pass area before making it to the dentist in Denver, six days before the rest of his survey camp arrive. Just noting all this in case you're asked someday on a game show. My profession as an over the road semi truck driver has me traveling this nations' backroad highways almost as frequently as in interstate system. When encountering roads put together such as the ones pictured above, I used to think to myself 'how awesome would this be to do this route in a capable car (always used my previous '86 Porsche 944 Turbo as that reference car).
