They can vary in price depending on what you are needing. An electric folding bicycle is a great way to get to work, school or run errands around town. Why? Because you can fold it up when you board the bus, train or ferry. Many public transits won’t allow you to take a bike on board if you cannot fold it. Some bikes fold down enough to pack into an average piece of luggage, a small car trunk or even under your desk.

Some specs on an electric folding bicycle are the average top out speed is between 12-20 MPH or up to 12 MPH using the motor only. This is depending on the weight of the rider and the incline of the hill. Many bikes can climb grades up to 12 percent on motor only. The motors can range from 250 watt to a 350 watt. The bikes are equipped with a 24 volt to a 36 volt battery. Lithium battery is the best for these bikes. Most batteries have an average charge time up to 8 hours. There are even mountain bikes that can fold. Maintenance and fuel costs are minimal with these bikes. The electricity they use for charging equals to about 10 cents for every 12-18 miles. That is a money saver in this economy.

In most states, the riding laws pertaining to electric bicycles are the same as traditional bikes. However, you will want to check with your local department of transportation agency to see what the newest laws are in regards to electric bicycle. All riders are encouraged to wear a helmet, and in many states they are required by law.

If you choose to purchase your bicycle on the internet, you can either have it shipped already assembled, or you can assemble it yourself. Most people found that assembling it themselves was not as difficult as they thought. You can also have a local bike shop assemble it for you for a nominal feel. Many bike shops are now carrying these types of folding bikes as their popularity rises with new choices for green transportation.
